Peter Moyle

Programme Facilitator - Ikaroa Nōta/Northern Team

Peter is a principal advisor Secondary for beginning principals in the Waikato/Bay of Plenty/Waiariki regions.

He has had 24 years’ experience in secondary school senior leadership, 15 of those as principal of Taupo-nui-a-Tia College. Peter has also been a Lead Principal for a large Kāhui Ako. These roles involved:

  • development and implementation of college strategic plans

  • leading change

  • promoting the school’s values and culture

  • culturally responsive and relational pedagogy

  • marketing the college

  • promoting teacher learning and development

  • reporting to and working with board and community.

Peter has been involved in a range of organisations related to his role as principal throughout his career including:

  • Member of SPANZ since 2007

  • Vice Chair of the Bay of Plenty Principals Association (BOPPA)

  • Member of the Bay of Plenty NCEA Regional Change Group

  • Chair of the Principals’ Management Group for Sport Bay of Plenty

  • Member of New Zealand Secondary School Sport Council (now School Sport NZ)

  • Trustee of the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge

  • Trustee for the New Zealand Foundation for Character Education Inc.

Peter has founded and been involved in professional learning groups throughout his career and has mentored first time principals. As a principal Peter has understood the importance of the support provided by principals’ networks and having a critical friend.

Peter’s wife is a SPELD assessor who is passionate about supporting students with dyslexia. They have two adult daughters. He enjoys mountain biking, trail running and skiing along with spending time with his family.
