Why work with an external appraiser

As educational leaders, you need an outside view on your practice. That way, you can see how effectively you are leading your kura or school and what to focus on next.

What might your appraisal include

Our appraisal will:

  • respect the unique context of the kura or school

  • honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi

  • identify and advance goals that support the principal or senior leader’s individual development needs and school strategic direction

  • be formative and learning-focused

  • affirm, critique and challenge evidence, thinking and practice

  • identify personal professional goals for the following year

  • assure the board of trustees that the principal or senior leader is focused on improving their own practice and advancing the school’s strategic goals.

The appraisal for each principal or senior leader will be designed according to the needs of the school leader and their school.

Additional services

  1. 360 and other surveys to be negotiated as part of contract e.g. NZCER School Practices Tool, Survey Monkey, interviews with key staff.  These are likely to be an additional cost.

  2. Where applicable, observation of principal teaching practice to be negotiated in addition to standard costs.
