Leadership coaching and support

Thoughtful support for principled, effective leadership.

Leading a kura or school is complex, demanding, and often isolating. Our leadership coaching offers you a trusted space to work through the leadership challenges that matter most in your context.

Whether you are a principal, tumuaki, or a senior or middle leader, our coaching is designed to support you to strengthen your impact and move your school forward.

Why work with a leadership coach?

Having a skilled and experienced partner who works alongside you can help you make sense of your current reality, surface what matters most, and identify practical next steps.

Through focused, purposeful conversations, your coach will support you to:

  • reflect honestly on your leadership practice

  • clarify complex problems and competing priorities

  • test assumptions and explore different ways forward

  • Identify where there may be a knowledge gap and support you to access appropriate research

  • make decisions that are grounded in your values and context.

Our approach recognises that you know your school best. Coaching supports you to draw on your own expertise while being challenged and supported by someone with expertise in educational leadership and who understands the realities of educational leadership.

What might your coaching focus on?

The focus is yours. Coaching begins where you are and supports you to move toward where you want to be.

Recent coaching partnerships have focused on:

  • leading curriculum change and implementation

  • navigating community consultation and engagement

  • addressing long-standing achievement or performance challenges

  • strengthening leadership conversations and influence

  • analysing leadership practice and decision-making

  • building cultures of trust and professionalism

  • leading inclusive and equitable practices.

Who is coaching for?

We work with leaders across the system, including:

  • principals and tumuaki

  • senior leadership teams (1 to 1 or in teams)

  • middle leaders (heads of department, syndicate leaders, team leaders, deans)

  • leaders in specialist settings, including RTLBs, SENCOs, and learning support coordinators.

How coaching works over time

Our approach is grounded in whanaungatanga and manaakitanga — building relationships that allow for honest reflection, challenge, and support.

Typically, coaching involves:

  • an initial conversation to clarify your context, focus, and what effective support looks like for you

  • Co-designing the approach, including whether it is fully F2F, virtual, or hybrid.

  • regular one-on-one coaching sessions (for example, once or twice a term), agreed together

  • space to reflect on current challenges, test thinking, and plan next steps

  • opportunities to revisit goals, notice shifts in practice, and respond to new demands as they arise.

There is no fixed pathway for coaching. Leaders may engage during periods of change or choose an ongoing partnership that supports leadership practice over time. Coaching is shaped around your context, progresses at a manageable pace, and recognises that leadership development is ongoing.
