Viv Butcher

Principal Advisor

Viv left her most recent principal position at Lincoln Primary in January 2022 after leading the school for 12 years. She has over 32 years of principal experience and has worked in schools ranging from sole charge through to U7. Viv enjoyed 20 years working at a variety of schools in the Grey Valley on the West Coast, both as a teacher and a principal.

Viv moved to Christchurch in 2000, having been successfully appointed to Hornby Primary School. A highlight of the nine years at Hornby was the establishment of two bi-lingual classes.

Viv has been very fortunate to have supported several beginning principals both formally as a mentor, and informally as a neighbouring colleague.

In 2020, she completed training with Coaching Pacific entitled Executive and Organisational Coaching Certificate, which she has found to be very useful in a range of settings.

Whilst at Lincoln, Viv partnered with Kathy Paterson, the principal of Lincoln High School in the co-lead role for their Kahui Ako.

Throughout her leadership roles, she has endeavoured to ensure the students remained at the forefront of all decisions made relating to teaching and learning.

Viv and her husband and enjoy a rural lifestyle, living on a 10 acre block, which is adjacent to their daughter, son in law and two very active grandchildren.

In her spare time Viv enjoys riding, sometimes competitively, reading, enjoying her garden, and quiet time at home with family and friends.
