Moira Campbell
Moira is a beginning principal advisor, based in the Greater Wellington region, encompassing the Horowhenua, Manawatu and Whanganui regions. Her role also includes a component of leadership consultancy.
Moira has come from being a principal for 16 years (Taitoko and Upper Hutt) and Kāhui Ako, Manaiakalani Cluster lead in Horowhenua to move to this new, supportive and very exciting role. She is passionate about working in partnership with iwi and ensuring that educational opportunities grow people, big and small!
Moira’s career in education to date has included a considerable amount of time in the teacher education sector with 15 years at Victoria University College of Education. Her work there included planning, developing, delivering and evaluating courses in professional studies, physical education and assessment for learning. Latterly her work leading adult professional learning has continued in the Kāhui Ako leading learning in effective use of technology the ‘power of collaborative inquiry’ and ‘Leading to the North East’.
Moira has contributed regionally over the past six years to the development of a Wellington Kāhui Ako Leaders Network and nationally to the development of the Aotearoa Kāhui Ako Collective presenting at the inaugural gathering in June 2024. She has also been the secretary of the Wellington Regional Primary Principals’ Association, a group of just over 200 schools and the leader of the Horowhenua Principal’s Association for several years.
Moira’s role involves working with principals in the following areas:
strategic leadership
creating positive change
developing culturally responsive practice
building leadership capacity
developing relationships between schools and their communities
building evaluative capability in leaders
working collaboratively and building relational trust.
Moira lives in Waikanae in a ‘solar powered off grid’ home which she and her husband Ian have developed over the past 25 years. She is also a musician who has toured Aotearoa over many years playing bass and singing as part of Legal Tender Band/ Duo. She and Ian also play regular concerts with invited musical guests at their bespoke ‘home’ concert venue. Her other interests include spending quality time with her mokos, keeping fit, creating mosaic artworks and travelling Aotearoa on their motorhome.
