Mike Dowd is a Principal Advisor for the Taranaki Region. He lives in New Plymouth, Taranaki.
Mike is an experienced principal and educational leader. His teaching career prior to being a school leader was largely in New Plymouth schools. The last 15 years of his school leadership was as the Principal of St Joseph’s School, New Plymouth where he was actively involved in the New Plymouth Principals Association. For two years he co-chaired the New Plymouth Principals Association in a collaborative co-chair role. Mike has also been the Chair of the Taranaki Catholic Principals Association, the Diocese of Palmerston North Primary Principals Association and spent time on the NZ Catholic Primary Principals Executive Committee. Mike also has fond memories of teaching in Jakarta, Indonesia for two years in the early 2000’s.

Mike is married to his wife, Tania, who is also an educator. They have two boys in their late teens. In his spare time Mike really enjoys spending time with family and socialising with friends. He enjoys cooking, watching and participating in sport, and loves to travel.
