Amy Chakif

PLD Consultant

Amy works as an education consultant based in Rotorua. She works with schools in the following areas:

  • digital technologies

  • innovative learning: pedagogy, practice and environments

  • digital fluency

  • mathematics and statistics (yrs 1 – 8)

  • leadership and change management

  • teaching as inquiry.

Amy facilitates professional learning and change management across the compulsory schooling sector including primary, intermediate and secondary, and in the Private Training Establishment (PTE) sector. She works with senior leadership teams, boards, teachers, students and whānau to design and develop effective professional learning that has meaningful and positive impact on student learning.

As a member of the national leadership team for the MoE Learning with Digital Technologies PLD from 2014 – January 2017, Amy led a team of facilitators providing in-depth professional development across the northern region. An experienced teacher and leader in a variety of educational settings, including both the compulsory and PTE sectors, Amy is a skilled adult educator and classroom practitioner. In 2013 she was awarded a Master of Professional Studies with First Class Honours through the University of Auckland for her research into teacher interpretation and enactment of policy into classroom practice.

Amy has proven expertise in 21st century learning and teaching, teaching methodology in innovative learning environments, blended e-learning, primary mathematics, leadership and change management, English for English Language Learners, NZQA External Education Review (EER) quality control and PTE governance and administration.

The design and delivery of Amy’s work with schools is based on research and is responsive to the school context and community. Key themes in her work are collaboration, student and teacher agency, data literacy and human-centred design utilising iterative inquiry methodologies.

When not at work Amy loves to spend quality time with her family, building huts in the lounge with her children, enjoying delicious home cooked food and, when the opportunity arises, travelling to the Middle East for desert adventures in the Gulf or for wonderful extended family chaos on the Mediterranean in beautiful Lebanon.
