Why this course is relevant for teacher aides

This course will help teacher aides answer questions like “why is it important to have correct pronunciation?” and “what is the impact on Māori students when te reo me ōna tikanga Māori are not visible, valued and used correctly in a school setting?” An assessment tool is also used to help identify strengths and areas for improvement with your own language capability and knowledge of tikanga Māori.

What to expect

This is a self-directed online course. You work through it at your own pace.

The online course supports you to develop your use of te reo Maori.

You will be supported by your facilitator as you work through the online course. They will give you feedback on discussions and can answer any questions.

Learning outcomes

You will:

  • understand the ways in which correct pronunciation and visible signs of te reo me ōna tikanga Māori are integral to Māori achievement.

  • know your personal capabilities within te reo me ōna tikanga Māori

  • develop and share an action plan that will set personal improvement goals for increasing capabilities in relation to te reo me ōna tikanga Māori
