Niho Taniwha | Turning evidence into action

Whāia te Ara Tika - Know better, do better. A structured, culturally responsive approach to strengthen your professional practice.

Using the Niho Taniwha framework, this course equips educators to meet the Teaching Standards with integrity, honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and enhance outcomes for all learners through research, reflection, and collaboration.

Beginning with Te Tiriti o Waitangi, 'Niho Taniwha | Turning evidence into action' positions professional growth as the foundation for a wider journey through all the 2026 Standards for the Teaching Profession. Educators are guided through a continuous cycle of reflection, targeted learning, and collegial engagement that ensures evidence-informed professional practice, meeting the 2026 requirements while strengthening outcomes for all learners.

The two-term course is built around the three domains of the Teaching Standards:

  • Professional knowledge – deepening understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural responsiveness, and curriculum expertise.

  • Professional practice – refining evidence-based teaching, assessment for learning, and inclusive pedagogy.

  • Professional engagement – strengthening collaboration, feedback, and continuous improvement cycles.

Together, these domains form a coherent, culturally grounded pathway that supports educators to know better and do better for themselves, their learners, and their communities.
