Carmel Hoetawa

Principal Advisor

Carmel is a Principal Advisor working in the Taupō area.

Carmel’s experience in education has been varied, from early days teaching in Mangere and Wairoa as a Scale A teacher to working in various roles in Special Education, and finally in the last 15 years as a primary and Special School principal. Her principal experience ranges from 2-3 teacher schools in rural and urban settings to larger urban schools. A short term of about three years saw Carmel working in the National Office of the Ministry of Education, as a coordinator for the RTLB service, then returning to seven years as Principal of Mountview School in Taupo. Until recently, Carmel led the Taupō Kahui Ako from its inception and she is passionate about professionals collaborating to make the lives of young people better. Interested in education reform, she looks forward to seeing how schools in New Zealand will perform in coming years.

Carmel resides in Taupo and enjoys swimming, boating and cycling. Travel is also not far from her mind and she is always looking for an opportunity to go on the next adventure! Family plays a big part in Carmel’s life and she enjoys her many nieces and nephews.
