With sixteen years experience in three very diverse principal’s roles, Roz is now supporting beginning principals in Taranaki, in a part time capacity, while continuing as Principal of Bell Block School in New Plymouth.
Managing change and building and maintaining positive relationships became a focus for Roz after she was appointed to the principal’s position of a newly merged school after the Taieri Network Review. As a result of this experience Roz has been keen to encourage and support beginning principals to build and maintain positive relationships with all members of a school community, while managing change.
Roz has worked with Boards of Trustees and senior leadership teams developing charters, strategic and annual plans and the policies and procedures under which the schools operate.
Roz was seconded as a facilitator for the Principal’s Development Centre in Wellington, where she could utilize many of the skills learned as part of her work on the art of facilitation. She continues to use these strategies to enable beginning principals to develop their own conclusions and judgements.
As a member of two Ministry of Education sector reference groups Roz is a strong advocate for PLGs and Principals’ Associations providing professional learning and connections for their members. She has held executive positions in Principals’ Associations in Otago and New Plymouth.
With one of two sons living overseas, Roz’s love of travel to new places has been extended. At home, with a border collie to exercise, walking and bike riding (at a similar pace to her walking) are parts of her day outside work.
