Neurodiversity presents itself in many ways for the ākonga you support and you will likely work with a range of neurodiverse ākonga. Understanding their specific needs and how to help them is key. In this introductory workshop, you will cover common conditions and diagnoses and get practical strategies to support your learners to thrive.

What to expect

This is a one-day workshop. You will learn with and from others in this interactive workshop. The workshop will focus on building your key understanding and give you loads of practical support that you can start to implement with the ākonga you support. 

Learning outcomes

You will:

  • develop an understanding of a broad range of neurodiverse conditions and diagnoses

  • learn ways to respect, support and reduce barriers for neurodiverse learners

  • understand the terms inclusion and inclusive practice

  • contribute to discussion on the benefits of effective teamwork when working to support ākonga to engage and participate in learning

  • develop professional skills, trusting relationships and culturally appropriate ways of responding to whānau and ākonga with neurodiverse needs

  • contribute to a shared understanding of positive behaviour support to de-escalate and defuse difficult situations

This course is suitable for grade A, B, C, or D teacher aides.

This course is suitable for all teachers.

Registrations are $360 + GST per person.

Teacher aide investment

This workshop costs $360.00 + GST per person.

Teacher aides who have applied for funding from the Ministry of Education. Please note you will NOT be able to enrol unless you have received your teacher aides' application reference number (ARN). This number is needed to register for this course.
