Leadership Advisor support for beginning principals
Evaluation Associates is contracted by the Ministry of Education to provide support to beginning principals/ngā tumuaki across the 10 Ministry of Education regions of New Zealand.
We are committed to providing timely, tailored and targeted support that enables each beginning principal/tumuaki to develop in their confidence and capability as a leader of learning. Each beginning principal/tumuaki is supported in their own learning journey so they are able to act strategically to achieve the aspirations of their school community and make a positive difference for learners.
This support is provided locally, regionally and nationally.
We have a team of more than 25 leadership advisors. They are all experienced school principals who are committed to ensuring all beginning principals/ngā tumuaki succeed. Each advisor works with an allocated group of beginning principals/ngā tumuaki.
The leadership advisors’ support is focused principally in the areas of: leading learning, governance, staff and stakeholder relationships and professional leadership inquiry.
Each beginning principal/tumuaki is also supported by a mentor. The mentor supports the principal/tumuaki with day-to-day queries. They provide support primarily around the administration and management of the school.
The beginning principal/tumuaki is further supported by a regional management group in each region. This group brings together representatives from Evaluation Associates, the Ministry of Education and local principals’ associations to contribute collectively to the development of this regional support.

Opportunities for Beginning Principal mentors
All regions of New Zealand
We are seeking current practising principals to register their interest in being a mentor for a beginning principal. It is expected that mentors will provide support to beginning principals in their local area. The mentors will work in conjunction with the leadership advisors to provide a strong network of support for these principals.
