Sandy is a Leadership Advisor to schools in Hawkes Bay, working primarily with beginning principals.
She enjoys working alongside principals helping them to develop a shared culture of improvement where everyone is focused on the big picture of educational success for all.
This means helping principals to engage in internal evaluation and collaborative inquiry with staff so that what works for learners is strengthened and what doesn’t work is critiqued with a view to making more of a difference for those at risk. Underpinning this is a need for schools to have supportive management systems aligned to curriculum, so everyone can focus, first and foremost, on providing a relevant and responsive curriculum for all learners. Sandy has a particular interest in principal and staff appraisal for growth and the development of student agency.
Her experience includes rural and urban principalships, most recently at Arthur Miller School in Taradale, Napier. Sandy was also four years with the Education Review Office, deputy principal at Taradale Primary and prior to that worked for three years as an adviser with Massey College of Education in the Hawkes Bay area. Her professional background includes a 1st class Masters in Educational Administration, and she has been an active executive member and supporter of the Hawke's Bay Principals’ Association, representing local principals at the Central Regional Principals’ Association.
Sandy lives with Dave in Napier and enjoys jogging and walking in town and in the bush, off road cycling but not at terrifying speed, travelling to interesting places in New Zealand and beyond, boating on Lake Taupo and socialising with friends and family.
