Danny Nicholls is the Leadership Advisor to beginning principals for the Bay of Plenty/ Waiariki region.
Danny is an experienced primary school principal having led three schools in his career to date. He served as the National President of the New Zealand Catholic Primary Principals’ Association prior to taking up his current role and completed his Masters in Educational Leadership (Brisbane) in 2016.
Danny is strongly committed to supporting principals in their work and has demonstrated this through acting as an advisor to boards of trustees on principal appointments, as a principal appraiser, and as a mentor to beginning principals. He has been seconded to assist as a school reviewer and to work for the Ministry of Education. In his own time Danny has authored three books supporting principals in their work and was a co-founder of the NZ Principals’ Facebook page. He has been nominated for the National Excellence in Teaching Awards (NEITA) in leadership.
He is passionate about supporting school leaders to reach their potential and to further his own professional learning in doing so. His leadership style is high-trust and focussed on developing those who he works with.
Danny is married to a primary school teacher and has three children. The family lives in Taupo where they are active members of the community. He enjoys participating in and supporting a wide variety of sports, and is a keen writer and reader.
