Assessment for learning

It's impossible to accelerate learning without effective assessment.

Effective assessment practices help make students’ thinking visible, which allows teachers to design learning programmes to meet students’ specific needs. Good assessment information, therefore, provides a focus for teachers' teaching and students’ learning.

For over ten years, Evaluation Associates has supported schools to develop their assessment for learning practice and establish quality systems to sustain good assessment practice. We guarantee that schools which genuinely engage with this learning will achieve accelerated progress in student achievement.

In-school support

We provide tailored in-school support to help teachers to:

  • construct learning environments which support students to be active,
    self regulating learners
  • establish clear pathways for learning with their students
  • use assessment information to target students’ specific needs
  • provide specific feedback that promotes learning
  • listen and respond skillfully to students' thinking
  • understand and monitor students’ progression through the curriculum
  • skillfully guide learning with reference to the New Zealand Curriculum,
National Standards and literacy and numeracy progressions.
We provide tailored in-school support to help students to:

  • develop a deep understanding of what it is to be a learner and their role
    in their learning
  • be clear about what they are learning, its relevance and their steps to success
  • understand where they are at in their learning, and be able to assess
    this accurately
  • seek and give quality feedback
  • reflect on their learning and identify their next steps
