Assessment for Learning

Assessment for Learning professional development services offered by Evaluation Associates include in-depth work with schools to bring about sustainable change in:

  • the learning culture of the school
  • teaching and assessment processes
  • standards of student achievement

Much of this work is part of the Ministry of Education-funded Assess to Learn (AtoL) programme. Evaluation Associates Ltd is the largest national provider of the Assess to Learn (AtoL) professional development programme, offering in-school extended professional development support to over 40 schools in the Bay of Plenty, Waikato, Auckland and Northland area in 2009. We have the longest history of any professional development provider in New Zealand of being able to demonstrate positive significant shifts in student achievement of greater than 0.4, using effect size statistical procedures.

The company also offers short courses on Assessment for Learning outside of the AtoL programme. These include induction courses for new staff in schools where there is an expectation that Assessment for Learning strategies will be used.

Contact us at 09 3600827 or at admin@evaluate.co.nz for further information.

An assessment functions formatively when evidence about student achievement elicited by the assessment is interpreted and used to make decisions about the next steps in instruction that are likely to be better, or better founded, than the decisions that would have been made in the absence of that evidence.
