Data Collection and Analysis

Evaluation Associates has been involved in analysing and reporting on student achievement data for several years. During this time we have regularly evaluated our methods of analysis and reporting in order to provide the most useful and clear information for schools.

We analyse and report on data for individual schools and clusters of schools. Our aim is always to support schools to use their own data for teaching and learning. Usually, we help principals, senior and middle managers and teachers to be able to collect, collate and clean data for themselves, although we are able to offer this service if required. However, analysis and reporting often requires a level of expertise that Evaluation Associates can provide more effectively and efficiently than a school or cluster can reasonably expect.

Student achievement data that is commonly analysed by schools includes:

  • Observation Survey
  • STAR
  • asTTle or e-asTTle
  • Progessive Achievement Tests
  • GLOSS/NUMPA
  • NCEA

We encourage schools to use nationally normed tests in order to provide comparisons against national standards.

Data is report on in both graphical and written form and we will provide any graphical form that the school requires. We find that bar charts, stacked bar graphs, box and whisker graphs and effect size tables to be the most commonly used and easily understood.

We are able to analyse data by:

  • individual student
  • class
  • cohort
  • gender
  • ethnicity
  • whole school
  • cluster of schools
